Roman Harasymiw ist ein Allgäuer Künstler mit ukrainischen Wurzeln. Er wurde 1957 in Kaufbeuren geboren und studierte von 1980 bis 1987 an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste München bei Prof. Franz Bernhard Weißhaar. 1984 wurde er dessen Meisterschüler und technischer Assistent.
Sakrale Arbeiten im öffentlichen Raum entstanden bereits in der Studienzeit, in der er eine vielseitige Praxis in Malerei, Fotografie und Bildhauerei entwickelte. In seinem Werk verbindet er traditionelles Wissen mit innovativen Ansätzen, u.a. mit den von ihm entwickelten Sedilumpintographien, Bildfusionen und Lichtradierungen.
Seine Arbeiten bewegen sich zwischen Realismus und Abstraktion und entfalten ihre Wirkung im Dialog mit dem Betrachter.
Roman Harasymiw erhielt u.a. den Kulturpreis seiner Heimatstadt Kaufbeuren (2001) und den Kunstpreis der Stadt Kempten (2016). 2023 wurde eine seiner Bildfusionen, die LESERIN I in die Artothek, der Kunstsammlung des Deutschen Bundestages in Berlin, aufgenommen.
