About this artwork
The first barbeque in our Retirement Village was a real event. Everyone was eager to see how the new facility worked out. Residents had planned and established the new area. We got quotes for the electric barbeques and the overhead sail. We set the location for the barbeque and arranged for the wiring through the roof, down inside the post, and dug the trench to the barbeque. The tables and chairs were purchased by residents. A cutoff switch was… added to the meter board to prevent unauthorised use. Our committee paid for all of this from village maintenance fees. However the village owners were so impressed they reimbursed the full cost into village funds. Sometimes you have to do it yourself. There is power in a group.
Roy Tate is a self-taught painter who began creating art later in life, drawing inspiration from personal experiences and his wife’s unwavering resilience. She died in 2022 but left a legacy of support and achievement. His technique is unapologetically naive and unpolished, blending imaginative storytelling with evocative, narrative-driven compositions. Through his paintings, he invites viewers to lose themselves in the underlying stories and to reflect on the surprises and complexity found within every human journey. As Albert Einstein said, "all you really need to make you happy is something to be enthusiastic about." So, look at Roy's paintings as markers of his enthusiasm. HE PAINTS TO MAKE HIMSELF HAPPY.
