About this artwork
Various wavy lines sway in a transition from a deep blue foreground to a bright orange background. I feel like I'm in a transition from being awake to dreaming, or vice versa. I can let myself be carried by the waves even while in the middle of a dream. So there are possibilities for immersion in this world.
The waves are applied with various pens (pencil, colored pencil, acrylic pen, oil pastel, charcoal) in layers from light to dark. I drew the… lines in pairs with both hands, which signifies an unconscious action and is close to the theme of dreams. The waves are applied before, between, and after the surfaces, which increases the sense of depth. The foreground and background surfaces are oil paints made from self-ground pigments, sprayed on with a paint gun. The daylight orange is a fluorescent color.
Rupert Bronner, an architect by training, is a gifted painter, draftsman, and photographer whose artistic focus is on the transition between architecture and fine art. With intuitive freedom and a risky balancing act, he employs bold color choices and material qualities, using his drawings as a guide for his hauntingly abstract oil and acrylic works. His art is a thrilling journey of discovery and a communication of his inner stance, conveying an exhilarating sense of liberation from the constraints of reality.
