About this artwork
A blue-gray base, applied with broad brushstrokes, is interspersed with aluminum powder that flashes depending on the light, subtly enlivening the surface. A central stroke of cadmium orange unfolds radially upon this, simultaneously sinking into the still-open, impasto layer. The luminosity is muted; the energy appears not only directed outwards but also drawn into the depths. Fragments of eggshell mark the point of impact as the physical center,… anchoring the gesture within the material. A dark, impasto structure in the upper area acts as a resistant counterpoint to the flowing movement. Cuts, abrasions, and partial dissolutions of the still-wet surface introduce a second, slower time into the image. This creates a tension between impulse and reaction, between eruptive gesture and the material's inherent resistance.
Rupert Bronner, an architect by training, is a gifted painter, draftsman, and photographer whose artistic focus is on the transition between architecture and fine art. With intuitive freedom and a risky balancing act, he employs bold color choices and material qualities, using his drawings as a guide for his hauntingly abstract oil and acrylic works. His art is a thrilling journey of discovery and a communication of his inner stance, conveying an exhilarating sense of liberation from the constraints of reality.
