This work by Sar la Rouge reimagines the image of Mahsa Amini as a powerful symbol of collective resistance and women’s empowerment.
Her presence is not reduced to a singular portrait, but transformed into a layered visual field where memory, identity, and struggle continue to resonate beyond borders.
The face appears partially dissolved into textures, archival traces, and circular distortions, suggesting not erasure, but the way memory expands… and persists through shared consciousness. Butterflies, stamps, and handwritten marks become emblems of fragility and strength, reflecting both vulnerability and enduring resistance.
Between tribute and affirmation, the work challenges how images of real lives circulate in media, insisting instead on dignity, agency, and remembrance.

I’m Sar La Rouge, a Franco-Togolese digital artist based in Cape Town. My work combines photography, digital collage, and new technologies to explore how images influence the way we see ourselves and the world around us.
Using photographs from my personal archive, I create layered and colourful compositions that mix emotion, culture and identity. As a self-taught artist, I approach digital art freely and intuitively, always experimenting with new ways to create.
My work often touches on themes of femininity, technology, and contemporary society, while celebrating visibility, and self-expression.
Today, I continue to expand my practice through physical prints, immersive installations, video, and AI, using digital art as a space without limits.
