About this artwork
In this work from the Squarry Series, Sar la Rouge explores the chaos of contemporary visual culture through a dense and fragmented composition.
Built around a black-and-white grid, the piece brings together a wide range of references, from pop culture and consumer symbols to darker, more surreal elements. Each square acts like a visual fragment, reflecting the way we consume images today: fast, scattered, and often contradictory.
Through digital… collage, the artist creates a tension between playfulness and discomfort. Familiar objects coexist with more unsettling imagery, blurring the line between entertainment and critique.
This work questions how meaning is constructed in a saturated visual world, where everything is visible, but nothing is fully understood.

I’m Sar La Rouge, a Franco-Togolese digital artist based in Cape Town. My work combines photography, digital collage, and new technologies to explore how images influence the way we see ourselves and the world around us.
Using photographs from my personal archive, I create layered and colourful compositions that mix emotion, culture and identity. As a self-taught artist, I approach digital art freely and intuitively, always experimenting with new ways to create.
My work often touches on themes of femininity, technology, and contemporary society, while celebrating visibility, and self-expression.
Today, I continue to expand my practice through physical prints, immersive installations, video, and AI, using digital art as a space without limits.
