About this artwork
“Komorebi” – a Japanese term for the play of sunlight through leaves – becomes in this work a poetic reflection on memory, perception and fleeting beauty.
The work combines photography and painting: A fine art print on Hahnemühle paper is transformed through expressive interventions with pastel chalk. In the interplay between black-and-white photography and golden-yellow markings, shadowy faces emerge, appearing and disappearing like fragments of… memory in the abstract pictorial space.
The composition plays with movement and stillness, abstraction and figuration – and invites viewers to develop their own associations between dream, reality and collective memory.
“Komorebi” was shown in 2023/24 as part of an international exhibition in China and is mounted on a board in a high-quality black frame – thus ready for sale.
Part of the COCON° series – shelter, confinement, transformation without pathos
Sergio Oliveira works with photography, painting, drawing, and digital media; his background in communication design and his international exhibition experience shape his work. His technique combines analog materiality with experimental digital approaches, whereby layering, fragmentation, and structured lines create an ambivalent, simultaneously raw and precise visual language. His works invite viewers to explore personal and universal emotions and, with the deeply felt beauty of melancholy, evoke spaces of resonance between past, present, and a hopeful future.
COCON° – an ongoing series between network of lines and figure; drawing, painting and wire sculpture intertwine.
