About this artwork
“Marmaille” – literally “gang of rascals” – is the color-intensive canvas version of a motif that was created as a study in 2018.
In a continuous one-line gesture, faces form a lively group; layers of acrylic, oil, and pastel set rhythmic accents in blue, red, and ochre.
The work plays with the ambivalence of belonging and self-will – a bond that holds together and at the same time disintegrates into many individual voices.
The screen version… was shown in Weifang in 2024.
