About this artwork
Faces as stand-ins for people: some stand out, others remain in the background – all are important. Many heads emerge in a continuous line – like a bond of connection.
The flowers represent the beauty of nature and the retreat some people have into it; their style is inspired by Far Eastern blackwork tattoo art.
Thus, instinctive faces meet precise, graphic blossoms – between closeness and withdrawal, connection and contour.
Sergio Oliveira works with photography, painting, drawing, and digital media; his background in communication design and his international exhibition experience shape his work. His technique combines analog materiality with experimental digital approaches, whereby layering, fragmentation, and structured lines create an ambivalent, simultaneously raw and precise visual language. His works invite viewers to explore personal and universal emotions and, with the deeply felt beauty of melancholy, evoke spaces of resonance between past, present, and a hopeful future. COCON° – an ongoing series between network of lines and figure; drawing, painting and wire sculpture intertwine.
