About this artwork
In this 46x38 cm work, I wanted to capture the vibration of an old street, where the architecture seems to dissolve under the effect of intense light.
This painting is for me a celebration of city life, treated with the spontaneity of a fleeting memory.
I structured the composition around a majestic arch, using the knife to sculpt the facades with impasto of creamy white,
of ochre and sienna. Contrast is at the heart of my approach: the cast shadows,… worked in shades of blue and cool violet,
come to respond to the incandescent heat of the walls.
The silhouettes in the foreground are suggested by nervous, graphic touches, conveying a sense of human movement.
