Winter brings incredible light. Naked trees and colourful snowy shadows. Sometimes I have to break a trail in the deep snow to get to the painting location.
Returning to Tack Point, this view is up river. The blue distant hills got my attention. It was very windy and soon after I started painting, I could see a snow squall coming my way. I had to work fast! I didn’t get it finished before I had to hike back to my car. Any precipitation causes… the paint to run.
A little time in the studio was needed for the foreground. These types of situations have taught me to be in the moment, painting as if it’s a dance. Moving with muscle memory and intuition and emotion.
Sheila McGregor is a painter with a background in acrylics, printmaking, fibre arts, and design, honed through dedicated study, residencies, and mentorship under Jane Bonnell. She paints en plein air and in the studio, using gestural sketches with pre-mixed complimentary palettes for spontaneity, and richly layered studio works for luminosity. Her style fuses visual art with the language and rhythm of music, weaving nature’s grandeur and negative space rhythms into each piece. Sheila’s art radiates hope and beauty, offering viewers encouragement and comfort, especially for those navigating life’s challenges.
