About this artwork
Flamencos was inspired by the landscapes and wildlife of La Pampa, Argentina, where I have spent many years living and working. The painting grew from memories of seeing flamingos gathered around lagoons, their vivid pinks and reds standing out against expansive skies and open water.
Working intuitively, I built the surface through layers of acrylic, oil, and spray paint, allowing colour and gesture to guide the composition. Deep blues suggest the… vastness of the landscape, while energetic marks and vibrant passages of colour evoke movement, light, and the rhythm of nature.
Rather than depicting a specific place, the painting moves between observation and imagination. It reflects my ongoing interest in transforming remembered landscapes into expressive, semi-abstract compositions that capture not only what I have seen, but also what I have felt.
