About this artwork
Umbrae Osculatae is a work that emerged from a highly intuitive creative process. I used acrylic paints diluted with water to create a fluid, almost weightless movement on the canvas. The colors emerged in gentle yet determined currents, which I guided with targeted air currents—a subtle touch that shapes the flow without forcing it.
This technique allows me to work with the elements: The fluid follows its own logic, and the guided wind brings… movement and direction. I observe, intervene, and then let go again—a constant interplay between control and surrender.
The title Umbrae Osculatae – "kissed shadows" – describes for me the delicate yet profound quality of the image. The dark lines and ramifications that run through the work like fine cracks or veins are spontaneous reactions of the material that I deliberately left in place. They remind me of traces, memories.
Simone Hähner is an experienced painter who has been creating abstract art for over 15 years. Her artistic career began with the palette knife technique, creating relief-like, textured surfaces. From this profound mastery of the material, she developed her own distinctive working method: "Air Motion Painting"—a technique in which liquid acrylic paint is moved and shaped exclusively by targeted air currents. In this method, developed from the ground up, air is not an aid but an essential instrument of expression: it shapes, shifts, destroys, and creates new color gradients. The interplay of precise control and conscious letting go creates subtle transitions, dynamic composition and a visual language that Hähner understands as a map of inner states. Even though air exists as a tool in art, she has developed it into an independent technique with a distinctive style.
