About this artwork
Weighted is my exploration of density. Of the feeling of weight, not as a burden, but as substance.
The forms lie nestled within one another like layered mass. Dark areas create depth, warm earth tones bring intimacy and physicality. Light surfaces deliberately open up spaces, allowing the composition to breathe. Nothing explodes. Everything remains contained. I'm interested here in the balance between tension and stability. The lines and surfaces… carry pressure within them, but they don't release it. Instead, it is distributed.
Weighted unfolds slowly. It doesn't demand quick comprehension. The longer you stay, the more you feel the inner peace that arises from this density. In a room, the work acts like an anchor. Especially in spacious living or working areas with clean lines or warm materials, it develops depth and a sense of grounding.
This image is for all those who are not afraid of intensity, who appreciate substance and presence.
Sophie Lehniger works primarily with acrylics and oil pastels on untreated canvas, drawing on her background in law and art history for her artistic practice. Using techniques such as layering, condensation, and reduction, she develops abstract forms characterized by repetition, variation, and visible traces of manual intervention. Her works radiate a profound tranquility and inner tension, inviting viewers to experience moments of pause and focused perception without offering a definitive resolution.
