About this artwork
I met Muriel several times and wanted to paint her. She has a lively personality, with humor and self respect. I enjoyed painting her curves. Muriel, sitting confidently on a richly patterned red surface, draws focus with her earthy hues and seamless blend of blue and warm tones. Her face is abstract, representing every woman. She exudes a presence that commands the viewer's attention.
Accompanying her is the spirited little pup, injecting a touch… of charm and playfulness into the scene. The background enriches the composition with color contrasts of dark drapery and intricate patterns, adding depth and movement. I

Ohio-born Susan Brown grew up with European parents, who introduced her to art at an early age. She won a state-wide award at age twelve.
After retiring in 2016 from a career in technology/bio-tech, Brown devoted herself to her painting career.
Highlights include invitation to the Florence Biennial 2025, Artist Residency, Vallauris, France, 2022, American Women Artist Award, 2023, Important World Artists VI (one of 10 artists sponsored to be in the 2024 volume VI), and Exhibizone solo exhibition, November 2025—January 2026. Her painting, "Davenport Evening" was featured in the San Diego Museum of Art, Nov. 2024 through March 2025

She teaches through the Santa Cruz Art League and at Ghost Ranch, NM.
