About this artwork
"Celestial Dance" juxtaposes the ethereal beauty of the aurora borealis with the stark presence of a man-made lighthouse. While both offer light against the night sky, the solid, functional structure of the lighthouse feels like an imposition upon the fluid, natural spectacle above. This piece subtly explores how human constructions, even those intended for guidance and safety, can alter and, in a sense, ground the untamed wonder of the natural world.

Syd Lawrence likes to create poignant, vibrant artwork inspired by nature and wildlife, and the every day. Syd aims for his work to appeal to all ages and make the viewer think deeply about the world around them while also making them smile.
His physical installation “Standing Novation” was selected to be showcased as part of the “Hack the Space” exhibit in the Tate Modern in London, alongside some of Ai Weiwei’s work. Previously as a founding member of a collective, known as We Make Awesome Sh, he created work for brands including Greenpeace, Google, Facebook and many others while also being commissioned by the Rolling Stones, Kylie Minogue and others. Their AwesomeWall piece was showcased in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
