About this artwork
Vertigo seized and immobilized in matter.
Painting from the “The Imperfect” Series.
Each subject portrayed is probed in his personal history, in his psyche. The portrait gallery of S. RHUD presents us with models in “Bas-reliefs”, in swaying, shaky positions, as if to reveal the inner chaos of each of these beings. The figure of “A bout de souffle”, in a convulsive spasm, seeks to get rid of his tinsel, pressing his chest in order to expurgate,… with a saving breath, the toxic and poisonous miasmas of life. The model’s complexion, like thick leather, becomes a shell. The hands, in an anguished fever, twisted with pain, participate in this masochism of the flesh.
The background painted in midnight blue evokes the depths of the sea, symbolizing the countless challenges that Ulysses had to face during his Homeric journey. The universality of our human trials is thus represented.
