About this artwork
A newspaper headline printed on tracing paper—Switched Off—reveals the energy crisis, a public document already dissolved into transparency. Ballpoint pen prints: the ones we all used to take notes with, even on page 90 of Romeo and Juliet. Now they're buried, fossils of how we used to learn. Marilyn appears twice in stencil—in red and in blue—the same icon split, symbolizing a collective imagination we all share but no one truly owns. Then the blackboard:… metallic black sprayed on PVC, scratched in places in an attempt to reach what lies beneath, producing new wounds instead of answers. Above, the chalks bear fragments—titles, names, ghosts of half-forgotten lessons. Hidden among them is the drawing of a blue cat: a moment of play within the archaeology of memory. A final layer of varnish seals everything invisibly. Nothing can be touched anymore. The past is there, layered and confused, but it cannot be corrected.
ThaBlueCat, a self-taught Italian visual artist, combines painting, sculpture and symbolic language in his art. He uses techniques such as expressive divisionism and the use of translucent materials such as blue PETG for his sculptures, often backlit to symbolize an internal consciousness. His works explore the autistic condition, symbolized through the figure of the Blue Cat, trying to express themes such as perception, isolation and acute sensitivity. Emotions of tension, attention, introspection and resistance pervade his work, a resistant art form that speaks to those who feel out of step with the world.
