The Voices series presents a set of ceramic busts that read the human portrait as a topography of memory. The Voices 35 explores the dialogue between the individual self and inherited cultural mythology. Across the entire figure, coiling dragons, phoenixes, and stylized clouds are rendered in luminous polychrome enamels - cobalt blue, sulfur yellow, and oxblood red against a deep amber ground. Sacred emblems once reserved for imperial porcelain migrate… onto the human form, wrapping the body like a second skin. The serene, downcast face emerges from the dense ornamentation as if submerged in centuries of ancestral imagery. The technique becomes a metaphor for how tradition inscribes itself upon the self - both ornament and inheritance, both shelter and weight.
Born into a Vietnamese artistic lineage, Thuy Nguyen engages with mono prints, polygonal paintings, and ceramics. Utilizing an abstract approach, she combines intense pigmentation with intricate geometric forms, traversing both the traditional canvas and the digital realm to stage her exploration. Her work, a kaleidoscopic fusion of shapes and colors, pulses with the complexities of human identity and the quest for harmony with the natural world. Through her polygonal portraits, she reveals a riveting chronicle of emotions, reflecting the enduring spirit encapsulated in our continually evolving selves.
