The Voices series presents a set of ceramic busts that read the human portrait as a topography of memory. The Voices 36 explores the spiritual dialogue between the self and the symbolism of the lotus. A pond of blossoms, broad leaves, and slender stems unfurls across the chest and rises onto the face, rendered in vivid turquoise, crimson, and ochre against a deep glossy brown ground. In Vietnamese tradition, the lotus embodies purity and resilience… - a flower that rises unstained from muddy waters, awakening through hardship. Here, it does not merely adorn the figure but grows through it: petals bloom on the cheek, stems trail down the torso like veins of inner life. The technique becomes a metaphor for the spiritual self taking root within the body - a quiet flowering of grace through the composed surfaces we present to the world.
Born into a Vietnamese artistic lineage, Thuy Nguyen engages with mono prints, polygonal paintings, and ceramics. Utilizing an abstract approach, she combines intense pigmentation with intricate geometric forms, traversing both the traditional canvas and the digital realm to stage her exploration. Her work, a kaleidoscopic fusion of shapes and colors, pulses with the complexities of human identity and the quest for harmony with the natural world. Through her polygonal portraits, she reveals a riveting chronicle of emotions, reflecting the enduring spirit encapsulated in our continually evolving selves.
