I've captured a rain-soaked, everyday scene here, one that could be anywhere in a city. The raindrops on the car windshield alter the view of a traffic light and some trees. The lights and the traffic light pole are reflected in some of the larger drops. I painted the background blurred and the foreground sharp, creating a sense of depth. I painted this work on canvas, which was then mounted on a wooden panel. The painting is framed in a wooden shadow… gap frame. This picture brings the quiet energy of a rainy moment into your home – a comforting reminder to find beauty even in gray hours. This painting changes your perception and heightens your awareness of the small details we see without consciously noticing them.
« The process of color-sensitive, soft, slow painting contrasts with the speed and indifference of everyday life. I take part of my surroundings and make art out of it. »
The perception of Ulla Kutter's environment is shaped by the focus on disharmonious compositions and their aesthetics. The German painter portrays the broken, chaotic, and shining aspects of everyday life in the city. Through her images, she creates possibilities for different levels of perception. Kutter paints using the traditional techniques of old Dutch masters, using oils on canvas.
