About this artwork
With Shape #2, I wanted to work on the vibration of the edges, like a game of changing perceptions depending on the angle of view. The volumes are angular, almost mineral, and reveal in turn the brutality and delicacy of the material.
On one of these facets, I applied a flat layer of 23-carat gold leaf. This deliberate, precise gesture creates a subtle tension: the precious brilliance confronts the roughness of the sandstone, not as an ornament,… but as a highlighting of this contrast.
Through this piece, I seek to question the way in which a detail can transform the perception of a whole, and how the apparent hardness can contain a fragile and luminous part.
