About this artwork
With Stela, I wanted to capture the memory of an upright form, both anchored and slender. A vertical presence, like a fragment of architecture, a primitive stele that would have preserved the trace of gesture and time. The lines rise, hesitate, straighten—between the rigor of construction and the gentleness of erosion.
Continuing the Facettes series, this piece explores how light transforms perception. On the upper part, the 23-carat gold leaf… stands out as a radiant surface: it not only illuminates the material, but also recomposes it. Through its intensity, it disrupts the balance of the volume, drawing the eye upwards and questioning what is revealed and what remains in the shadows.
Stela thus stands between two truths: that of sandstone, dense and silent, and that of light, total and moving. In this tension, I explore the border between the strength of the visible and the depth of what escapes.

Vesna Garic is a ceramic sculptor, trained at the Arts et Techniques Céramiques school in Paris after a rich career in Southeast Asia and the world of finance. She shapes stoneware and porcelain, combining traditional techniques, gilding, and Japanese lacquer, to create unique pieces where balance, light, and contrasts interact. Her work explores human fragility, the multiplicity of being, and the beauty of cracks, offering the viewer a tactile emotion and an intense introspective depth.
