Voyageuse is part of the Facettes Series. This series explores our multiplicity and our perception. It invites us to go beyond appearances: what is immediately visible, what is hidden, and what is gradually revealed.
Voyageuse's lines are taut, the volumes constructed. Sharp edges sit alongside more open planes, like so many facets of a complex and changing self.
The gold leaf punctuates the raw texture of a facet. It creates a shine, inviting… a shift in the gaze.
This sculpture is entirely lacquered with Japanese lacquer, which gives it a wooden appearance, which also contributes to the questioning of its perceptions.
Voyageuse's story is unusual. She traveled by plane. Due to her completely enclosed structure and the air pressure, she split, particularly in the middle of one of her sides. This is how the thick texture on one side appeared, giving her her unique character.

Vesna Garic is a ceramic sculptor, trained at the Arts et Techniques Céramiques school in Paris after a rich career in Southeast Asia and the world of finance. She shapes stoneware and porcelain, combining traditional techniques, gilding, and Japanese lacquer, to create unique pieces where balance, light, and contrasts interact. Her work explores human fragility, the multiplicity of being, and the beauty of cracks, offering the viewer a tactile emotion and an intense introspective depth.
