About this artwork
This series of smaller works is inspired by the original Golden Records from the 1970s. These Golden Records were attached to the hulls of the Voyager space probes, and travelled with them as they were shot into space. Like a message in a bottle, the Golden Records were intended to communicate to any beings in the universe who happened to come across the Voyager space probes. Victor Liu is a sculptor and visual artist with an MFA from the School of Visual Arts, drawing inspiration from his background in physics, philosophy, and digital technologies. His techniques meld traditional casting methods with modern 3D modeling and printing, creating half-sized resin figures arranged in classical, figurative poses that reference ancient mythologies and bodhisattva sculpture.
