About this artwork
“Between Us” is a contemporary figurative abstract diptych painted in oil on canvas. Two monumental silhouettes are built through an inversion of rich crimson, burgundy, olive and muted earthy tones. Layered paint, horizontal erasures and translucent passages create a textured surface in which the human image emerges between abstraction and recognisable form.
The two figures remain separate, yet visually enter each other’s space. The colour of one… becomes the environment of the other, while layers passing through both images blur the boundary between them. The work reflects on what happens between people through closeness and connection. We remain ourselves, yet the presence of another person gradually leaves something within us and changes the way we perceive ourselves and each other.
