About this artwork
This work, which is part of My Conquerors series, tells of a little girl who, despite her fragile teeth, shows resilience and resists in order to assert herself and exist socially. Based on a work started in 2015, this series takes us on a journey not through imaginary illustrations but into the lives of real people through stories about their life experiences. They recount their past failures in the background of the canvas,
reveal their present… victories.
Each piece contrasts characters
in professional situations, crowned in Egyptian style
to reveal the courage and effort that frames their current situation. In the background, a decor in dull colors
talks about their past, that stage of life tinged with pain, worry and uncertainty.
The aim of this series is to create a true collective imagination of hope for young people, based on work, and to reflect their daily reality with
models identical to them....
I am a self-taught visual artist of Cameroonian nationality, I paint the human condition through childhood, resilience, resistance and identity are my favorite themes. My style mixes realism, comic book illustration, narrative figuration and borrowings from art history, creating a dreamlike and emotional universe. Trained at the Kanganyam Viking workshop in Douala, I have been exhibiting around the world since 2009, including a solo at the Sakhile Me gallery in Germany in 2021 with "Stolen Childhood". I represented Cameroon at the 7th Francophone Games in Nice in 2013 and won several awards, including the UNRISD prize in 2023. My works are featured in prestigious collections, such as the Gandur Foundation for Art and the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth. Since 2020, I have been represented by the Sakhile Me gallery based in Frankfurt, Germany.
