About this artwork
The Arena of Innocence
On this canvas, I wanted acrylic to become the accomplice of a sacred moment. By laying down my touches of color in an impressionistic style, I sought to capture less the line than the vibration: that of the heat on the walls and the fervor in the eyes.
Here, play is not a pastime, it's an arena. I've placed the child at the heart of every brushstroke, because only he possesses the genius to transform a patch of land into… a kingdom. In this circle of dust, time stands still.
Through my vibrant pigments, I pay homage to this pure gravity, where a simple glass marble becomes the center of the world.
I am a self-taught visual artist of Cameroonian nationality, I paint the human condition through childhood, resilience, resistance and identity are my favorite themes. My style mixes realism, comic book illustration, narrative figuration and borrowings from art history, creating a dreamlike and emotional universe. Trained at the Kanganyam Viking workshop in Douala, I have been exhibiting around the world since 2009, including a solo at the Sakhile Me gallery in Germany in 2021 with "Stolen Childhood". I represented Cameroon at the 7th Francophone Games in Nice in 2013 and won several awards, including the UNRISD prize in 2023. My works are featured in prestigious collections, such as the Gandur Foundation for Art and the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth. Since 2020, I have been represented by the Sakhile Me gallery based in Frankfurt, Germany.
