About this artwork
This painting was inspired by my impressions from a long hike along the Baltic Sea. I was fascinated by the sheer power of huge, luminous clouds hovering above the greenish-grey water — a landscape that could change completely within minutes.
Working in oil, I combined loose, expressive brushwork with impressionistic touches to capture the fleeting light, movement and texture of the clouds. Rather than portraying a cloudy day as grey or muted, I… wanted to show how rich, vibrant and full of subtle colour the northern landscape can be.
The work is a memory of the Baltic coast — open space, changing weather, wind and the quiet feeling of standing between sea and sky.
