About this artwork
This painting is part of the blue series. In this series, the artist pays tribute to Matisse's blue collage series and Klein's creation of his own blue. The hue she uses is her own, she creates it by combining different blue shades with a hint of white and purple. This particular scene represents the escape a great book provides. Reading can erase all your surroundings, as symbolized by the airy clouds the subject is floating on. As words create… an alternate reality, the reader experiences an out-of-body experience, where time has stopped and physical threats are gone. This piece celebrates the countless books the artist has loved, from a child reading for hours facing an open closet-her dad would worry about her not going to play outside- to the adult savouring moments reading in her garden, with the bamboos and lemongrass rustling in the background.
« Colors and shapes flow like music out of my mind. They resonate with love, joy, peace, and self-acceptance. »
