About this artwork
I painted this painting because of my interest in steam trains. During my school days I travelled through South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia twice a year for four years. These trips were the pleasure of my life at the time saw much of Southern Africa from my compartment window and the friendly local people at every stop and railway junction. I also took the time to visit the shunting yards whenever I could .
The title of this painting… refers to the small cat wondering around in the foreground
« Talent is not the only ingredient needed for a good artist. Talent is useless without hard work and a dedication to quality to make each work better than the last. »
Barry Jackson is an experienced artist from South Africa whose bronze sculptures have been exhibited nationally and are held in public collections. He began drawing as a kid and after winning an art competition at the young age of 13 on Zambia TV, Jackson decided to devote his life to art. Portraiture and wildlife are the main themes in his sculptures, and he is often commissioned to create life size public works of famous figures such as Mahatma Gandhi and Louis Van Mauritius.
