About this artwork
In "Self-Forgetfulness," pop culture meets socially critical reflection. At the center is a monkey—wearing a gold chain, watch, and smartphone—posing in a classic selfie pose. His pose, the oversized Bitcoin coin, and the bananas in a golden basket depict a caricature of human vanity and consumerism. The hashtags "#viral" and "#fyp" on the left reflect the superficiality and addiction to digital recognition.
This monkey is contrasted by a larger-than-life… blue figure, apparently embodying an artificial intelligence entity. Its head partially dissolved in binary code, it holds the globe in its eye-filled hands with a curious, almost loving gaze. These details—like the fly, snail, and droplet on a Nivea can—can be read as a poetic-surreal warning: While humanity is losing itself, a new non-human intelligence is unfolding.

Constantina Seracin is a self-taught artist specializing in surrealist art. In 2022, she left her management position at a supermarket to pursue her dream of becoming an artist. By 2023, she had participated in her first group exhibition in Bad Tölz, which led to a contract with a renowned gallery. Her work has been featured in Merkur magazine and published in the Belgian art magazine L'Eventail.
