About this artwork
Desert Star grew out of the natural character of this stone. Its warm tones and veining immediately reminded me of a desert landscape, so I followed those lines into a form that feels like a small star rising out of the rock.
The opening in the center lets light pass through and keeps the sculpture from feeling heavy or closed. I’m drawn to that tension between weight and softness—something solid that still feels like it’s moving. My intention with… Desert Star is that it reads as a quiet, steady presence in the room, the kind of piece you notice a little differently each time you walk past it.
