About this artwork
Beneath a tall palm tree, a girl in a hanbok stands alongside a magpie, a tiger, and a Saci figure.
This piece captures the poetic encounter between Korean symbolism and Brazilian identity within a single serene landscape.
The palm tree represents the warmth and vitality of Brazil, the tiger embodies courage and protection, the magpie symbolizes hope and the messages that travel across distance, and Saci emerges as a guardian of the land’s spirit… and folklore.
Together, these figures create a moment of quiet connection, expressing themes of migration, belonging, and the bridges formed between two cultures. Soft tones and gentle textures convey a sense of harmony, celebrating an unseen love that persists across places and traditions.
Daye Park is a South Korean painter with BFA and MFA degrees from Kyung Hee University, working primarily in oil pastel, watercolor, and mixed media reliefs. She masterfully combines traditional Korean painting techniques and folk symbolism with radiant Brazilian influences, sculpting tactile, semi-three-dimensional surfaces using clay accents. Her distinctive style celebrates the merging of two cultures, luminous color, and poetic softness. Park’s art is a heartfelt exploration of migration, longing, and connection; her works radiate warmth, love, and the tender courage to remain true to oneself across distances.
