About this artwork
"In the work entitled 'Caronte', two figures reach out in a gesture of connection and desire, but are separated by a fascinating texture that seems to overwhelm and separate them. This surface that resembles a cloud of polarized tires creates a sense of stasis, evoking the idea of an insurmountable border, just like the river Styx that separates the living from the dead in Greek mythology. The image invites the viewer to reflect on the fragility… of human bonds and the difficulty of crossing the barriers that surround us. 'Caronte' thus becomes a symbol of hope and a relentless search for connection in a world that tends to isolate us. The visual power of this work reminds us that, despite the obstacles, the desire to unite and understand the other is an eternal and universal impulse."
Gianluca Chiodi is an established Italian photographer with national exposure. Inspired by Italian operas, Caravaggio, and the romanticism of painting, he composes photographs that blur visual reality, fantasy and sensuality together into an irresistible, sensory aesthetic. In doing so, Chiodi explores subjects such as the human body and the power of its movement, the environment and its protection, and people and their vices.
