About this artwork

Heather was determined to keep “Joystruck” light, and she did.
“Wow, was I in the mood to paint big format when I started. With house paint brush in hand, I layered on a pale, breezy yellow.” Using smaller brushes for smaller strokes, Heather added lots of glazing medium to maintain transparency. The big palette knives came out next to scrape on smooth swaths, or scrape through heavy… visually areas.
Heather would start fresh another day when the last coat was completely dry so she could keep tool work distinct. She made the dynamic patterns of repeated lines and sharp trajectories with palette knife edges. Finally, direct liquid pours of yellow and bronze completed the piece, except for a few paint pen outlines to emphasize those lovely, amorphous, drippy shapes. And yes, Heather said she was Joystruck when she finished.
« If any brushstroke or scrape of the palette knife awakens the emotional part of your mind, the place where you visualize no tangible object you’ve ever known, that is enough. »
