I have been sculpting stone for most of my life and my sources for material has come from all parts of the world.
My latest sculpture made from red Turkish Marble. It started out as a 300-pound column and the rest is history. As I studied the stone and it’s long shape, my muses took over as I began to carve. After a few months, the final sculpture emerged as a spiraling form representing a smoke spiral from a dying campfire.
Then the task came to… give this sculpture a title. Way back in my subconscious mind something emerged about a building that was proposed for Chicago. After googling the project, I felt goose bumps forming and I saw the object that was my muse had guided me too.
I was slated to be a new skyscraper on North Shore Lake in Chicago and the architect was Santiago Calatrava. The project never was completed.
Here it is in red Turkish marble. Enjoy.
