About this artwork
In a more human, introspective and contemporary approach, I reinterpret the iconography of Mary, mother of God. I deliberately represented her with her eyes closed, immersed in a silent meditation that invites the viewer in turn to contemplation. Her face, bathed in blue and pink hues, exudes a gentleness and spiritual serenity, transcendent in the face of the chaos of the world.
Mary's red hair and the textured background, composed of intertwined… blue and red lines, contrast with the peaceful expression of the figure, symbolizing the trials and sufferings of humanity. This chaotic background is soothed by her presence, embodying faith and the mystery of divine motherhood.
This work offers a modern vision of Mary, where sacred femininity combines with timeless introspection, inviting everyone to find consolation and inner strength in this serene face.
L. Joss (Luc Josserand) is a French painter, born in 1964 in Firminy.
L. Joss develops a pictorial practice centered on the human figure and the conditions of its presence.
Trained in a demanding approach to representation, his work has gradually shifted its focus towards areas of instability, where the continuities of reality fragment. His recent paintings introduce distortions that affect both space and perception, as if reality itself were becoming uncertain.
At the boundary between matter and consciousness, his work engages painting in a field of tension where the visible is no longer sufficient.
Painting, therefore, no longer consists of representing reality, but of experiencing its formation.
