About this artwork
In 1924, Vittorio Jano created his first straight-eight-cylinder engine for the legendary Alfa Romeo The 1987 cc P2, with common crankcase and four plated-steel two-cylinder blocks, went on to win the first World Championship ever in 1925. This is a painting of another winning Alfa Romeo Monza straight after it won at the Goodwood Revival - thus titled 'Winning Laurels'.
The engine was still pinging as it cooled when the sketch for the painting… was made in an effort to record and capture the moment along with enigmatic shaddows.
An original oil on canvas 14 inches x 16 inches and limited edition prints inspired by a photo I took at the Goodwood Revival when the winning car had just been parked in its garage with Winning Laurels left hooked on the radiator cap as the engine cooled in the Paddock.
