About this artwork
I painted this corner of Montmartre because it’s where the city softens. The stone buildings and cool winter light can feel reserved, almost quiet—until you reach the flower shop and everything changes. Under that blue awning, color spills out onto the sidewalk in bright, impatient bursts: tulips, roses, mixed bouquets stacked like little celebrations waiting to be carried home.
I kept the brushwork textured with the palette knife to capture the… sense of the old buildings glowing windows. The windows above hold warm reflections like small lanterns, while the street stays pale and calm, letting the flowers do the talking.
For me, this painting is about everyday beauty in a working neighborhood: commerce as ritual, color as comfort, and the way a single storefront can make a whole city block feel human.
Mike Haubenstock is a passionate painter with over 20 years of experience, enriched by guidance from art teachers and coaches. He works primarily in oils, embracing a modern impressionist style with representational forms, loose brushwork, and high-key colors, often using a palette knife for textural depth. His evocative still lifes, florals, landscapes, and unique reflection series merge everyday beauty with intriguing urban overlays. Through his art, he radiates the joy of discovery and the deep satisfaction of creative problem-solving, inviting viewers to slow down, connect, and savor the subtle poetry of ordinary moments.
