The painting is created after an earlier large-scale work titled “Tired Warrior.” Here, only the warrior is depicted - solitary, exhausted, possibly a survivor of a brutal battle. Only he and his faithful horse remain alive; his weapons are reduced to just a few arrows.
The warrior is weary yet unbroken. True to his word and oath, he is still capable of protecting the weak and confronting the enemy.
The palette is dominated by dark, cool tones.… The warrior’s figure alone is rendered in brighter, warmer colors, setting him apart from the background.
Style - Art Nouveau. The brushwork is decorative and planar.
