About this artwork
This work immediately brings to mind The World, the archipelago of artificial islands off the coast of Dubai in the Persian Gulf, a gigantic architectural project currently under construction.
The artist, using the FLOAT SHARDS technique (cullet saturated in a casting resin) placed on his canvas, three varieties of green-colored sets, juxtaposed as closely as possible and semi-immersed in a bath of resin tinted with purple red.
These shapes, with… rounded contours, float, as it were, on a clear expanse of water, the bottom of which can be glimpsed.
The anthracite frame is the dike which stabilizes the sea currents in the aquatic enclosure.
This painting remains very contemporary and abstract.
The use of glass, as a base material, gives spatiality to the work, without creating, however, the illusion of perspective. Depth is everywhere.
Philippe Fares is a contemporary French artist whose career has been profoundly shaped by the diversity of cultures and the interaction of art and science. His unique perspective, sharpened by a childhood spent in sub-Saharan Africa, is a testament to his early exposure to the art world, particularly to the influence of primitive arts. Returning to France at the age of 16, Philippe embarked on a path that allowed him to cultivate his understanding of Western arts while pursuing scientific studies.
Philippe Fares’ artworks are meticulously constructed using scientific methods and careful planning. His creations often feature a recurring tiling pattern, a meticulously balanced play with chance. This synthesis of meticulous design and the unpredictability of chance gives his works a dynamic and intriguing quality.
