About this artwork
My piece “Circular Vortex” is about the awareness of the spiral that I have seen in my past, present and am sure I will also see in my future self. Through shapes and color I weave through time twisting myself, around, through, and against life itself.
This piece was made especially for the Nartwork Exhibition in Venice, Italy “Timebound Specter" part of the official Venice Carnival 2025 program.
It reflects my human experience with a truthful yet… observed reflection about how as much as we like to try and control things, somethings are out of our control.

Rika Maja Duevel is a painter/mixed media artist from Stavanger, Norway living in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Her artwork manifests from her daily experiences, capturing the moment through an introverted lens. A focus on her own female experience and the journey and deeper research into the concept of the Introverted Artist, the unseen soul. An award-winning artist and graduate of Wheaton College, SACI, and Lesley University she has exhibited in Amsterdam, Rome, Venice, Bologna, Naples, Florence, Milan, Barcelona, Granada, Paris, Seoul , Tokyo, and Buenos Aires. An Artist in Residence in Barcelona, Granada, Spain, Ardèche, France, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Guest Artist Lecturer at the University of Amsterdam’s Business School (UVA), published in the “50 Artists to Watch 2023” and “50 Artists to Discover 2025” by the Florence Contemporary Gallery, and named one of the “Top 30 Influential Women Entrepreneurs to Watch Out For in 2025” by NY Weekly Magazine.
