In the square terracotta tiles, geometric absolutism is contaminated by the material pattern and fractures that the artist himself produces. The patterns resulting from the recomposition of the forms (welding-stitching) represent his own sign language, a sort of elementary graphism. These signs do not belong to the symbolic universe, as they do not refer to any representation of reality, nor do they represent a form of writing, as they are the product… of a process that cannot be codified and repeated. These signs are the manifestation of an automatic impulse, a transgressive gesture that leads him to break the tiles: programmatically, they cannot respond to a rational logic, to compositional rigor. Here too, we are faced with a corrosive action, a breaking of symbols, a manifestation of the artist's discomfort with what is happening around him.
(Critical commentary by architect Massimo Locci)
Valter Vari uses acrylics, enamels, and letterpress inks on canvas, fabric, paper, wood, metal, and recycled materials, drawing on his artistic and architectural training in Rome. His techniques range from abstract-informal to minimalist spatial analysis, integrating formal stylizations and experimentation with different media. Each work invites the viewer to perceive new energy and profound harmony, initiating an emotional dialogue with the environment and the viewer.
