I wanted to create a form that evokes both a protective bark and a fragment of primitive rock, as if it carried within it the memory of the earth. Its full curves are inspired by the roundness of a seed, a pebble polished by time.
I chose to inscribe a triangle of 23-carat gold leaf, a clear flat area that opens like a burst of light at the heart of the material. This precise geometry interacts with the softness of the volumes, in a balance between… primitive power and precious refinement.
Through Gaia, I explore the matrix dimension of the earth: it embodies both the strength of the mineral and the gentleness of what engenders. It is an ode to buried vitality, ready to reveal itself.
Vesna Garic is a ceramic sculptor, trained at the Arts et Techniques Céramiques school in Paris after a rich career in Southeast Asia and the world of finance. She shapes stoneware and porcelain, combining traditional techniques, gilding, and Japanese lacquer, to create unique pieces where balance, light, and contrasts interact. Her work explores human fragility, the multiplicity of being, and the beauty of cracks, offering the viewer a tactile emotion and an intense introspective depth.
