In this work, that promise is shattered. Migration explores the reality of forced displacement, where the instinct to return is met with the finality of destruction. The explosion behind the bird is not just an event; it is the erasure of a destination.… For the millions of people living in forced migration, the tragedy is not just the journey away, but the realization that the 'home' they carry in their memory no longer exists in the physical world.
I chose oil on canvas for this piece to give the subject a sense of permanent, historical weight. The contrast between the graceful, natural movement of the stork and the chaotic, man-made fire behind it serves as a silent witness to a home that can never be reclaimed.
