About this artwork
Some creatures carry the weight of ancient knowledge. This one has never forgotten.
The goat in Slavic and Celtic tradition is an ancient creature — a keeper of thresholds, a companion of the otherworld. Not a domestic animal. A being of deep instinct and quiet power, standing at the boundary between the visible world and everything beyond it.
I painted Sacred Goat as part of my exploration of Slavic mythology and the wild. I am drawn to the animals… that appear in folk tradition not as symbols of weakness or domesticity but as guardians — creatures that hold knowledge older than language. When I look at a goat, I see something ancient looking back.
The dark floral background came intuitively — a night garden, abundant and mysterious, the kind of place where the boundary between the living world and the spirit world feels thin. I built it layer by layer, flower by flower, star by star. The amber eye of the animal emerged from that darkness naturally — steady, unhurried, present.
