About this artwork
A blue agave grows from the edge of a stone pier, its sharp leaves reaching outward against a vast Adriatic sky. Behind it, the water stretches to a distant island — Prvić, on the Croatian coast — and the horizon dissolves into pale blue haze.
This painting was made from a photograph taken on the island of Prvić in 2019. I was struck by the plant's particular quality: something ancient and architectural growing from the edge of the sea, its blue-green… colour almost matching the water behind it. It felt like the island had placed it there deliberately, as a kind of marker.
The palette is built entirely around blues — the agave, the water, the sky — anchored by the warm stone of the pier below. Acrylic on canvas, 40 × 50 cm.
