Contemplation is not seeing. It is dwelling in the space between seeing. The forms stand like remnants of time. Rocks that perhaps consist only of light. The eye enters the image. But at the same instant, the object releases, and what remains is the light.
"contemplation-08" is an image that bears traces. What appears here is not a landscape. It is a possibility of landscape. Contemplation is perhaps nothing other than the moment when the eye realizes… that it has itself become part of the landscape.
"contemplation-08" employs a visual language that exists in the borderland between abstraction, atmosphere, and fragmentary landscape. These forms, however, never appear fully defined. They seem more like traces of something past, existing between the visible and that which eludes the eye.

Avni Alija uses a wide variety of media, including oil, acrylic, sand, metal, and even wood and pebbles. He originally studied natural sciences and completed the "Paris School" at the Hamburg Academy. He combines impressionistic plays of light and shadow with impulsive abstract color dynamics and conceptual art, uniting diverse techniques into a curious, exploratory style.
