About this artwork
I created Light Forgets, Petals Remain while thinking about how fragments of experience—light, color, gesture—refuse to stay where we leave them. It reflects my fascination with how fleeting moments dissolve while quieter traces endure. In this work, shifting planes of light move across fragments of petals and architectural forms, suggesting memories that slip in and out of view. The light changes, forgets, and moves on, but the petals—symbols…
of what lingers—remain. I am drawn to this surreal space where the ordinary begins to feel dreamlike, and where what is fragile and temporary still leaves a lasting presence.

Barbara Gothard, is a contemporary visual artist, who, though originally from Illinois, has truly made the Palm Springs/Mojave Desert area her home.
